Goddess Interrupted

Goddess Interrupted
Author: Aimee Carter
Release Date: March 27, 2012
Rating:

Kate Winters has won immortality. But if she wants a life with Henry in the Underworld, she'll have to fight for it. Becoming immortal wasn't supposed to be the easy part. Though Kate is about to be crowned Queen of the Underworld, she's as isolated as ever. And despite her growing love for Henry, ruler of the Underworld, he's becoming ever more distant and secretive. Then, in the midst of Kate's coronation, Henry is abducted by the only being powerful enough to kill him: the King of the Titans. As the other gods prepare for a war that could end them all, it is up to Kate to save Henry from the depths of Tartarus. But in order to navigate the endless caverns of the Underworld, Kate must enlist the help of the one person who is the greatest threat to her future. Henry's first wife, Persephone.

OMGOMGOMG!! It's almost here. Luckily, I got my hands on an ARC and can talk a little about it now:

When last we saw our characters; Kate survived the tests and became Henry's bride, a goddess, and a full-fledged member of the "council". She then went to Greece on vacation with her best friend James for her six months on the surface. This story picks up on their return and Kate senses that something is off.

Kate expects a magical reunion with her husband. She spent her whole vacation hoping to catch glimpses of him, but with no success. Now that they are to be reunited though, Kate can hardly contain her excitement. She will soon be with the man she loves, her dark prince. The next six months will be perfect. Unfortunately, Henry doesn't seem to have gotten the memo and is more sullen and distant than she can remember. Seems, he can't get over the fact that Kate isn't her sister.

Suddenly, the oldest and strongest members of the council, including Henry, are kidnapped and held hostage. Kate is at a loss, but is determined to get her family back no matter the cost. Unfortunately, she has to enlist the aid of the last person she wanted to ask for help. Persephone. Talk about painful! How is Kate supposed to handle this? She is rushing to the aid of her husband, and at the moment she would come rushing in, he will probably only notice that Persephone came to save him. What if she wants him back? Where will that leave Kate? Talk about a catch 22.

Like I said, this novel is full of angst and anxiety. It's a transition. You remember middle school, right? That time was hard, but well worth it. Going from lunch then the playground to lunch and sitting around with friends. Icky boys to kind of cute ones. But what would life have been like without those changes?

We get to see a new depth to Henry and Kate's relationship. No, everything is not perfect after their wedding, but who really wants a happily ever after that is that simple? If Henry just rushes into an all out relationship with Kate, that would make her the rebound girl. He has to ease into it. In this novel, we get to watch Henry slowly let go of his past and move toward his future. Henry and Kate are in the process of building something real instead of a superficial love.

And as for the Titans and Calliope... I can't wait for the third book to see where Aimee will take this story. The Goddess Legacy will be action-packed to say the least.  Fear not though, there are more goddess adventures to hold you over until July 31.

Download a copy of The Goddess Hunt and see what really happened between James and Kate during their summer in Greece.
