My First Review

Cinder : Book One in the Lunar Chronicles
Author: Marissa Meyer
Category: Teen
Release Date: January 2012
Rating:

Ask almost any little girl who her favorite princess is, and she will tell you Cinderella hands down. There is something about a kind girl rising from humble beginnings to be so much more which captures the imagination. Although on reflection, we never really see much of who Cinderella really is, does she have dreams, any real skills? Marissa Meyer took this classic tale and gave it a whole new twist.

Cinder takes place in New Beijing, over 100 years after World War IV destroyed Earth as we know it. In this new world, androids perform most manual labor, and medical advancements have allowed people to survive the most horrific accidents by turning them into Cyborgs (that's right, Cinderella is the Bionic Woman). This life-saving procedure comes at a price though, Cyborgs are considered more machine then human and are therefore treated as things instead of people. Enter Cinder Linh, the best mechanic in New Beijing, despite her meager 16 years.  This reputation brings her face to face with the charming Prince Kaito, future emperor of the Eastern Commonwealth. Prince Kai's beloved android seems to have malfunctioned and he needs Cinder's assistance in straightening her out quickly.

New Beijing is also in a world ravaged by a new kind of plague. Research teams have spent years trying to cure it, but to no avail. When her stepsister is infected, Cinder learns that the key to ending this epidemic may lie within her very veins.

From here on out, the book sets out on a world wind adventure. There will be laughter and tears, as Marissa really pulls you into Cinder's world and minds. She will fall into your heart, and you will find yourself wondering what's next? This book has everything, beautiful imagery, masterful storytelling. It's a tale that readers will certainly enjoy for years to come. The only bad thing about this book, is that we have to wait a whole year before Scarlet (book 2 of the Lunar Chronicles) is released.
